Privacy and participation
This study is conducted by KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Division of Speech, Music and Hearing (TMH). The principal investigator is Alireza Mahmoudi Kamelabad. For study questions, contact alimk@kth.se.
Before creating an account
Accounts support participation and a return visit seven days later. Directly recruited participants provide an email address; crowd-platform participants can use an email-free username and supply their platform participant ID. We store a protected password record, activation-code use, account verification and participation status.
Account information is collected before you decide whether to join a study. Read the study-specific information before submitting study responses. Participation is voluntary, and eligibility is restricted to adults aged 18 or over. Recruitment may include participants worldwide.
The site uses essential session and security cookies. Your browser may also retain an unsent activity answer in session storage to recover it after refreshing or signing in again.
Study responses and the AI tutor
The study collects age, first language and self-rated English proficiency, vocabulary-test answers, text conversations with the tutor, short questionnaire responses, scores and researcher reviews. It records activity times, page returns, page visibility, presented materials, AI requests/replies and technical failures. No sensitive background information is intentionally requested.
The tutor receives your message, selected dialogue, the supplied study image and study instructions. Please do not include your name, contact details, health information or other personal information in answers or chat messages. The selected external AI service and its processing terms must be specified in the approved study notice.
Permission to use anonymised quotations is optional and asked separately. Declining it does not affect participation. You can withdraw quotation permission through My studies or by contacting the research team with your participant ID. Contact the team about any quotation already published. No permission for a public research-dataset release is requested by this choice.
Service providers and retention
Brevo is used for account verification, recovery and study-reminder emails when email delivery is configured. Cloudflare supplies DNS for narrative.alireza.mk; study web traffic is not proxied through Cloudflare. Hosting, backup locations, provider retention and any international transfers must be described in the approved notice below.
The agreed application policy removes direct account/contact identifiers after the seven-day follow-up is completed. For withdrawal, screening exclusion or an uncompleted follow-up, removal is due 30 days after withdrawal, screening or the final follow-up deadline, respectively. Research records remain under a participant identifier for at least ten years. The final notice must specify service-log, provider and backup retention as well.
Removing account details does not automatically anonymise free-text answers. Research exports use participant identifiers and are not public anonymous datasets.
Stopping participation and your rights
You can stop participation through “Participation and withdrawal” in an activity or contact the research team. Stopping participation cancels further activities and pending reminders; it does not automatically erase submitted research records.
You may request access to your personal data, correction, or, where applicable, erasure, restriction, objection or portability. KTH will assess requests under the applicable law and research/archive requirements. For data-protection questions, contact KTH’s Data Protection Officer. You can also read about your rights and complain to IMY.
Research records at a public university may be official documents. Any request for disclosure is assessed under applicable public-access and secrecy rules.
